Sugarloaf Mountain from Urca Mountain

Rio de Janeiro has been careful to retain trees and flora throughout the city.   There are trees on most every street and there is even the wonderful Tijuca National Forest within the city proper.  We drove through the forest to get to the top of Corcovado Hill and there are many trails to walk and hike as well.   But Sugarloaf Mountain is the other famous landmark, which is also in the midst of the city and is filled with trees and all types of foliage.

Sugarloaf Mountain does not have a road that takes you to the top…you can either scale the mountain as some climbers do or you can take two cable cars to the top which is what most people use to reach the summit.  The first tram takes you to Urca Mountain, and the second to the summit of Sugarloaf Mountain.  The views of the city below from both the trams and the viewing area located atop Sugarloaf Mountain are unique and superb.
