Philadelphia International Flower Show |
|
Recently, we visited the Philadelphia International Flower Show
which we have wanted to see for many years. The Flower Show is
sponsored by the Pennsylvania Horticultural Society (PHS) and dates
back to 1829 when the first show was presented. It is held in the
Pennsylvania Convention Center in the downtown area of the city and
right next door to the well known Terminal Market, where we feasted
on a Philly Cheese Steak sandwich.
It is the largest indoor flower show in the world attracting over 250,000 people each year. This year’s flower show theme was Paris, France and many of the displays were therefore designed around Parisian scenes and flower arrangements. This included a model of the Eiffel Tower, Parisian rooftop gardens, street scenes and flower arrangements along the Champs d’Elysees. There were many large scale displays which were quite elaborate, as well as individual and club entries that were competing for prizes. I thought that the show site was well laid out and even with the large number of visitors; it was easy to move around and get close to the exhibits. |
