Colorado

Our visit to Colorado was planned for a visit with Sandy and Pete in Buena Vista and to ski with Pete at Monarch Mountain Resort.   While there we visited the Florissant Fossil Bed National Monument and the Colorado Wolf and Wildlife Center.

Beneath a grassy mountain valley in central Colorado lies one of the richest and most diverse fossil deposits in the world. Petrified redwood stumps up to 14 feet wide and thousands of detailed fossils of insects and plants reveal the story of a very different, prehistoric Colorado.

The Colorado Wolf and Wildlife Center is one of very few sanctuaries in the United States which has been certified by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA).  CWWC actively participates in the Species Survival Program by providing a home to Mexican Grey Wolves and Swift Foxes.
